I would love to start teaching an afterschool program for teens to write science fiction and fantasy. I have often taught this at a local school library–with snacks–once a week for high school students. If you know of a way to contact or approach Dayton/Vandalia area high schools, or program coordinators at high schools, let me know. I’d love to be able to offer these classes again.
Hopefully we’re about to start up again the adult group of Yukon Fantasy and Science Fiction Writers to meet twice a month for encouragement, critique, kicking each other in the ass, writing sessions, and general good times. You can be a part of this too. Look for more information later this month—it will hopefully start in May, and possibly at EPIC PIZZA.
Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you live near Whitehorse.
We’ll give you directions. I know of currently 11 or 12 people who want to start this up again. It’s free, and good for your scifi/fantasy soul.
You can buy pizza. You can make stories. But there’s no reason you can’t do both.
Archived: There’s also a group of teens called Rocketfuel that meet in FH Collins Library (French section) after school at 3:30pm on Wednesdays. You can read more about their awesomeness here:
This group has about 10-12 members from 11-18 years of age. They write like fiends, and they eat like them too!
To join, you must go through the City of Whitehorse Parks and Recreation, Mia Lee, 668-8327, and sign up. There is a fee.
So, if you’re under 18, Rocketfuel, over 18 or so, and ready for serious workouts of writing, the adult Science Fiction and Fantasy group (which used to be called YukonSpec, but should choose a new name perhaps….)
Come and join us!
